Poor Florida. Quite a mess down there and the damage estimates are just now coming in. While devastating, the storm was quite concentrated and missed some of the bigger population centers where it would have caused even more damage. We'll all have to keep our eyes on the topics and see what else develops.

We were down the shore this weekend and dodged a couple of weather bullets, although it was not perfect beach weather by any stretch of the imagination. Friday's rains were drying up by Saturday morning and there was no wind at all so we went skating. Very nice. We went down to the beach and stayed until 2:00 or so when the first of Charley's sprinkles began falling. It rained quite heavily on Saturday night, but the storm had moved offshore and didn't do much in the way of winds. On Sunday it began clearing out and it was a nice day again until early afternoon when the clouds and wind picked up again.

We read - I decided to skip ahead and read the next book in the Niccolo series. So far, it seems to be self explanatory, although there are a couple of questions I have. We also watched Mom's Africa DVD - I highly recommend it to those of you who haven't watched it. The pictures are great and set to music.

[Very nice!]

I see that President Bush has announced troop reductions in a few areas around the globe. Certain people have been complaining that the military is stretched too thin, so he's fixing that. Of course those same people are now complaining that the troops shouldn't be taken from Germany and Asia.

Gee, I wonder if the withdrawal of two Army divisions from Germany will matter to anyone? Maybe all those business that exist to serve the US forces and their families? I'm sure there will be outrage at the audacity of the Americans and their lack of support of the German economy.

[Thank goodness they have a social welfare system there that will take care of everyone!]

And finally, here's the best picture from the Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies (Via Franco Alemán):

[Priceless.]

Quote du jour:

"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not winning but taking part . . . The essential thing in life is not conquering but fighting well."
