What a treat I had today. I was invited to join Eva and John K for their annual joint birthday lunch at Le Bec Fin, one of the top restaurants in the country. It was splendid. We did a fixed price three course menu (with dessert!) - all three of us had the escargot to start. Eva had le boeuf, John had poussin and I had filet de veau avec des ris de veau. The sweetbreads were much better than the ones I had in New York a couple of years ago.

We each had small portions of different desserts - they put birthday candles on Eva and John's - and coffee. Quite the civilized lunch. We decided that we should continue to have our quarterly or so get-togethers, and group all of our birthday celebrations into one annual Le Bec Fin lunch.

[Joyeux anniversaire!]

You would think that the storms in California would have wrung every drop of water out of those weather systems, but apparently not. They managed to make their way across the country and we had snow for about 12 hours yesterday. That said, it only managed about 3 inches on the ground. Now it's pretty much grey slush everywhere, and it should warm up enough to melt entirely this weekend.

[Just in time for Monday's storm.]

We're going out on a date tonight. Gary wants to see a movie - I think we're going to see "Constantine" with Keanu Reeves. We're going to the early show (7:15) since I probably won't be able to stay awake for a movie starting at 9:15.

[Where did I get that gene, Mom?]
