Last night was the first of what promises to be an annual event: a tour of the South Philly Christmas Lights and dinner with friends. First was a stop at Buddakan, where Jon bought drinks for Eva, Franny, John and me. Unfortunately, he had a better offer and went to dinner elsewhere while Eva drove us around South Philly under Franny expert guidance. There are some truly dedicated people - and neighborhoods - down there that really pull out all the stops for the holidays. Huge, inflatable snowmen, electrified reindeer, giant wreaths and whole streets festooned with lights crossing over the road. It was amazing.

Dinner at Kristian's was, as usual, awesome. In our usual boring way, we all ordered the osso buco which was lovely. And the pumpkin cheesecake was very tasty.

Eva - who has two dachshunds, Oscar and Emmy - even sang us a Christmas carol, composed especially for her:

God rest ye merry dachshunds, let nothing you dismay.
Remember Eva _________ was born on Christmas Day.
To feed you and play with you and pick up all your poop,
And to give you her latte foam, latte foam
And to give you her latte foam.

[You probably needed to be there.]

SAVE YOUR CORKS!!

[Only 5,036 more needed for our Wine Cellar Wall.]

Quote du jour:

"At Christmas play and make good cheer,
For Christmas comes but once a year.”

Thomas Tusser (c1524 - 1580) English instructional poet
